Writing Endeavors

I'm a 30-something wife and mother from Toledo, OH - a shy introvert with fiery ambition. I have a way with words and a knack for visual expression. My hard-working husband is my rock, and our spunky little girl keeps us on our toes.

I was a regular blogger at HealthyPlace, a popular mental health website with over two million unique visitors a month.

After two and a half years at Healthy Place, I decided it was time for a change. I am now the author of From the Ashes of Faith at Freethought Blogs. I write about family and everything secular generally one to three times a week.

Free to Roam: Poems from a Heathen Mommy

My debut poetry book will be released on February 2nd!

This book is about my story as an atheist and Midwest mom -- from my childhood in rural Northwest Ohio to my present-day life in Toledo. It gives a very honest look at motherhood as well as atheism in a red state. I may discuss my challenges but in the end, I'm all about expressing my hope for the future.

Fine and Commercial Art

I have a background in fine and commercial art, and have participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions across North America. Some of my favorite shows include:

A Multimedia Recital and Art Show at Michigan State University with my good friend, Travis Scott

"Visions and Voices" a solo show at Southern Oregon University

and the Sapphire Lounge show, a 2-man show in New York City.

I enjoy using colored pencils and markers, and occasionally I paint with acrylics. I would consider most of my drawings and paintings as surreal. Check out my work on my portfolio page and click on the Exhibition List tab to the left to see a complete list of past shows.

* I have been taking a break from art shows to focus on being a mom and writer, but I hope to return to the art scene sometime soon. Check back for updates.

Living in Toledo

I'm proud to call Toledo, OH my home, and I wanted our photo taken somewhere unique to the Glass City. Here my family enjoyed an afternoon at the historic Collingwood Arts Center.

I love Toledo. It's just the right amount of grit and vibrancy. Toledo's a medium sized city, but very diverse. I even love the weather here!

Living in Toledo

One year later...

We had our pictures taken in front of the Toledo Art Museum. The art museum is a must-see if you are ever in the area. It houses an amazing collection and admission is always free.
